Unwatchable due to endless ad breaks
Unwatchable due to endless ad breaks. Tried watching a movie, had 3 ad breaks in 15 minutes, each longer than the preceding one. I appreciate that they need advertising revenue but come on... if they can't provide free content unless they deluge it with ads, stop providing it.

Many bug and crypto mining hidding in it. Very easy to find it.
Many bug, movies that dont want to play at all, plex going to 100% of cpu with like 15 treats open in task manager. Yes guy, its a crypto mining software hidden in it. My CPU always go to 100% only when im not in front of my computer, and it go for more than 12 hrs long.. What plex doing while i dont stream anything, not adding any movies or series for like 3 months, but plex go non stop at 100% of my cpu! making my computer very slow. Tried to get help from support, they dont want to recognize the bug, they said its my computer the problem. So its like my 10 computers, my 4 servers, are all not good to run this crap? Seriously, they just want your money and forget to get any help from them. You will never had. also they refuse to refund you. Like i said, as soon as they have your money, they have nothing more to do with you. (im member from 2014). My total regret to join this crappy company. The coders cannot fix the bugs they have. After 4 years to have the same bug not fixed.. it just proof that its not a bug but a mining crypto crap.

Would be good if I wasn't deafened when a commercial comes on. I don't mind commercials but I do mind losing my hearing. No thanks Plex, I would rather pay to stream a service who isn't trying to shove a commercial through my eardrum.

Cannot connect with media server
Cannot connect with media server. This is just the free version. My server is right behind the TV, hardwired and the server cannot see it. Reboot server, reset internet.

Can it just work all the time? Is that too much to ask?
Great when it does work, but the random 'cannot connect with server', all too often is just too much.

Adverts every 8 minutes
Timed the adverts watching edge of tomorrow.8 minutes of film then 2 minutes of adverts. Will never watch Plex again unless they make this ratio more sensible. Plus it was the same stupid advert all the way through the film!

Plex has been hacked
My only experience with Plex was miserable. I tried to sign up for Plex today and it resulted in several of my accounts being hacked. When I put the code in for access, it said I had to call a number to get my information "verified". A gentleman with an Indian accent answered and told me I had to download an app called TeamViewer QuickSupport. Sounded a bit strange, but he fished me right in. Sad thing is, I know better. Long story short, with this app, he was able to access my Amazon account which has a lot of other info on it. He got my debit card number also. Then I noticed gift cards for Xbox and Nintendo games being charged to my account, so I told him that had nothing to do with Plex streaming and I didn't want the service if it was that involved. He had gotten access to my bank account and actually pulled it up to show me that nothing had been charged. Needless to say, I had to turn off my debit card until I can call them in the morning and find out if changing my pw will be enough
or if I need to get a new card. Fortunately, Amazon is great and recognized that the orders he tried to put through were suspicious. They canceled them and emailed me to tell me they locked my account and I have to call them in order to get it unlocked. Now I have to worry about what else this joker was able to get his hands on before I realized I'd been had. So I'm changing all my passwords tomorrow, and hopefully that will work. This just makes me realize how important it is to have seperate passwords for everything and as much of a pita as that is, it has to be done. Can't even watch a movie anymore without some jerk taking advantage of you.

Shows are good volume on commercial NOT
Shows are good. HUGELY jacking up volume for commercials is annoying, and I'm pretty sure is illegal. I forgot to add, often, 3 of 5 times approximately, after the "ads" show refuses to restart, get black screen, then you have to restart the show and guess where you were at. I've pretty much quit watching anything on plex.

Save your money
As a long-term Plex lifetime subscriber, I feel I've had adequate time to evaluate Plex over its lifetime of decision making.

Plex has become less stable, less reliable, and more bloated over time. By itself this wouldn't be enough to justify a 1 star review, but there's a number of trends and problems with Plex that make it less appealing.

The basics of getting your video or music played is no longer their core focus, and certainly insufficient dev time is spent on those basics to ensure they actually reliably work. Plex will claim instant access across a range of devices; they will neglect to mention the number of times you may need to restart the app, restart the server, hunt for what you're trying to play in their abysmal search, fix a match or an audio glitch, or discover that basic player features like time played, fast forward, and rewind... don't actually work.

Their UI spends more time trying to sell me streaming services or let me know about features that I keep turning off each update (which of course resets preferences because versioning is apparently hard) than actually supporting me as a user trying to, you know, play some content.

Their apps (Android, Roku, Apple) are a disaster. Clearly developed on the cheap by devs who aren't full-time mobile coders, the apps will hang, mysteriously go slow, require restarting, or just plain fail to find a server they successfully connected to just a few minutes ago. Again, the basics of good networking practice appears to be neglected. The lack of any caching or offline support, even temporary, becomes more noticeable when you know this is how professional developers cope with network blips; Plex just throws errors at you at the slightest wobble. Presumably they test their clients a few feet from their servers and call it a day.

Support is a joke and mostly relies on the forums; forums are filled with shills who will try to argue it's your problem not Plex's (despite nothing changing other than receiving yet another buggy update), and it's tiresome endlessly trying to find out why things just don't work. In short, there's an ever increasing list of features and very little QA of them.

This is particularly ironic when Plex is making a bid to become a streaming service. I not only have used Netflix, but read a lot of their guidance on how much you need to invest in ensuring reliable content delivery. Plex doesn't appear to have a tenth of this investment and hopes you won't be too annoyed by endless advertisements and dropping video/audio until they generate enough revenue to either sell the company, buy a jet, or maybe, just maybe, fix things.

My experience with Plex has been quite dissapointing
My experience with Plex has been far, far less than stellar. The entire site seems to have been constructed by and now run by 6 to 8 year old children. Three times I have had this following experience:
I will begin to watch a movie, and, as it runs down to about 6 to 7 minutes from the end or climax, the movie is no longer offered . This leaves me with the decision as to whether or not I want to pay to watch the end of the movie on some other platform. The entire concept may be a partial scam in order to garnish viewing of movies on pay-to-watch platforms. This "phenomena" also happened with a seasonal series I was watching. The first season and half the second was fine but then the series became no longer available.
In the end, I have decided to stay away from PLEX as much as possible and will only use it while holding my breath as I wait for the movie/series to be expunged before its conclusion.

I have been using Plex since it…
I have been using Plex since it started, what I loved about it, it worked smoothly focused on Music had zero problems, I bought it for a lifetime. Fast forward to today. I would want all my time and money back this program as it developed is the worst program I have ever used. do not invest your time into this program it is a total waste. breaks lose libraries you spend months working on can not recover it. and it is focused to be a movie service vs what it was created to do.

Plex is like being a perpetual beta…
Plex is like being a perpetual beta tester! I got this several years ago, when it was just a server for your own media. I have DVDs that I can rip the contents and put on a server for easy access from all our TVs. Plex was simple and not slick, but it worked.

Then they started hosting or passing through others' content (with ads), and the downhill slide began. Every new version brings a new problem or recurrence of an old one: the app on a smart TV, Roku, or FireTV can no long see the server. This happened again today, and that makes an even dozen times. Support has the same fix: Uninstall the app from the device(s) and restart each, uninstall the server program from the server and restart, download and reinstall the server program, reinstall the app on the device(s).

Hour and a half later, it might work again, or today it still will only play the pass through streaming with ads stuff. And I pay for this $40 a year? Game over. Just cancelled. There must be a better media server!
